time for the party at the top of the world!
Reykjavik Iceland, November 9th - 11th

Fanfest 2006 was a huge success thanks to all of the dedicated EVE fans who traveled from far and wide to participate. It was a time to reflect on our successes, meet new friends or catch up with old ones and get to know the members of the dev team on a more personal level. Here's a look back at the fun-filled, information-packed two-day event.

 

> T H U R S D A Y

Registration
"Whew! It feels good to be out of that pod!"
Fanfest attendees queue up to receive their registration packets as they browse through the phat lewt in the EVE Store.

Meet 'n Greet
 
"Is that a frigate in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?"
Players, many proudly displaying their corporation logos on custom shirts, mingle together and meet members of the dev team the night before Fanfest officially kicks off.

PVP Tournament
 
"The Almighty says this must be a fashionable fight. It's drawn the finest people."
As onlookers crowded into the room at full capacity, contestants in the PVP tournament use skill, ingenuity and teamwork to advance to the next round.

CCG Tournament
 
"I'll see your 'Prophecy of Macaber' and raise you a 'Bad News."
Like a scene out of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," wrappers were anxiously torn from EVE: The Second Genesis CCG card packets as tourney hopefuls looked for a different sort of "golden ticket": cards that would give them that special edge against their opponents.

Roundtables
"Events and missions and combat, oh my!"
A plethora of great suggestions and ideas emerge as players and devs meet for these in-depth discussions on topics such as "Roleplay and Events," "Player vs. Player Combat," "Factional Warfare," and more.

Grudge Match: CCP PVP Championship Rematch
"There's no such thing as friendly competition."
Though they fought the good fight, CCP's Content team was unable to best the CCP QA team, whose record now stands at 2-0.

PVP Finals
"Veni, Vidi, Vicious."
Ian Webber and Kevin Horseman sizzled in the final round, taking home first place and earning some serious bragging rights.

CCG Finals
 
"To the victor goes the spoils… and this nifty plastic Viking helmet made in Taiwan."
EVE:TSG CCG tournament winner Pierre Malherbaud took the prize in the third round, defeating his worthy adversary Ian O'Brien.

Lounge Party
"I'll drink to that!"
Winding down at the end of the first day, Fanfest goers chatted together over lots of beer and laughter as DJ Margeir worked his turntable magic.

CCP Concept Art Team
"Looking good!"
Lead Concept Artist Ásgeir Jón Ásgeirsson and Art Producer Benjamin Bohn explain the process involved in creating EVE's beautiful concept art.

The Next-Gen Graphics Pipeline
"Taking it to the next level"
Dan "Redundancy" Speed, Graphics Programmer, gave the crowd a preview of the new Trinity graphics that will make EVE even more breath-taking than before.

Integrated Voice in EVE
"Roger, Roger. What's your vector, Victor?"
Vivox's Monty Sharma gave details about “EVE Voice,” the integration of the Vivox voice chat system, highlighting the features that will enable EVE players to communicate faster and easier than ever.

Technologically Speaking
"The sky is the limit."
Technical Producer Torfi Ólafsson's overview of technological advances being developed for the game was well-received by the audience.

EVE Everywhere
"Programmers do it in code."
Bringing EVE Online to the masses requires precision, flexibility and staying abreast of cutting-edge technology. Chief Technical Officer Halldór Fannar's presentation told how he and his team of programmers employ those skills and more to keep the game world running smoothly.

News from the Eastern Front
"Go East, young man."
As Managing Director of CCP Asia, Kjartan Pierre Emilsson, former lead developer of EVE, was an integral force in introducing the game to the Eastern market and shared the highlights of that process with the Fanfest audience.

The Fifth Horseman
"I love the smell of Vitoc in the morning."
Nathan Richardsson, Senior Producer, infused his presentation with his special brand of humor as he shared the plans for features players can look forward to as EVE continues to expand and grow.

The Definition of Evil
"I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way."
It takes all kinds to make a world and no world would be complete without villains. Creative Director Reynir Harðarson explored the darker side of the MMO society and the impact it has on game design.

Keynote: Past, Present, Future
"Did you hear the one about the Viking and the Wolf?"
Hilmar Pétursson, Chief Executive Officer, reminisced about the progression of CCP from its humble beginnings to its current status as a major force in the gaming industry which includes a merger with RPG visionary White Wolf.

Panel Discussion
"Can I have your stuff?"
Fanfest attendees eagerly took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to the panel of key representatives from CCP and White Wolf.

Party at the Top of the World
"Tonight we're gonna party like it's 23341!"
Fanfest 2006 went out with a sonic boom as party-goers were served by costumed bar staff, tantalized by the haunting music of RealX and rocked to the core by RoXor (the CCP dev band).
